Cook’s Endeavour replica is coming to visit. Win tickets to go on board

Encounters 202O is a 14-month program to mark the 250 years since the 1770 voyage of James Cook and the Endeavour crew charting the East Coast of Australia.

From February 2020 the replica Endeavour will undertake a series of voyages to 38 destinations around Australia. Individuals have the opportunity to join the crew of the Endeavour where they will experience life on the sea on an 18th Century vessel. Visitors to the Endeavour at the 26 locations that the ship berths will be able to tour the vessel to gain a clear understanding about the conditions of life on board and view objects that tell a narrative of Indigenous life at the time.
When Cook headed back to England after his East Coast voyage he said’ From what I have seen of the natives of New Holland they may appear to some to be the most wretched people on Earth, but in reality, they are far happier than we Europeans. They live in a Tranquility which is not disturbed by the inequality of Condition: The Earth and the sea of their own accord furnishes them with all things necessary for life…”

We have six family guest invitations ( two adults and two children) to go onboard the Endeavour when it visits Brisbane from Monday 18th May to Tuesday 26th May, and Gladstone from Sunday 31 May to Saturday 6 June 2020. The ship will be at anchor at Town of 1770 on Saturday and Sunday 30 and 31 May.
